🔍 Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 3, 2026
UCP Scanner (operated by UCPScanner.com) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights — whether you use our website, our Chrome extension, or interact with us in any other way.
1. Data Controller
UCPScanner.com
Contact: privacy@ucpscanner.com
2. Information We Collect
We collect only the minimum data necessary to provide and improve our service.
2.1 When you use the website
- URL you submit – When you enter a URL to scan, that URL is sent to our server (
proxy.php) to fetch the UCP manifest and perform checks. We do not store this URL unless you explicitly opt in (see Section 4).
- Theme preference – We store your chosen theme (light/dark) in your browser’s local storage, not on our servers.
- Usage analytics (optional) – We may collect anonymized, aggregated data about scanning results (e.g., how many stores pass a certain check) to improve our service. No personal identifiers are linked to this data.
2.2 When you use the Chrome Extension
- Domain of the page you visit – The extension reads the current tab’s domain to automatically check for UCP support. This happens entirely in your browser; no data is sent to us unless you manually click “Scan” or use the “Agent Search” feature.
- Scan results – Results are stored locally in your browser’s
chrome.storage for caching and history (up to 7 days of scores). They are never transmitted to our servers unless you choose to share them (see Section 4).
- Agent search queries – When you type a product query into the “Test Agent Search” field, your query is sent directly to the store’s endpoint (as declared in the manifest). We do not receive or store that query.
- Compare feature – The domains you compare are processed locally; no data leaves your browser.
2.3 Email Communications
- If you subscribe to our newsletter (via the website’s footer or popup), we collect your email address. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- We may send you occasional updates about new features or important security notices.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide the scanning service you requested.
- To improve our scanner accuracy and user experience (aggregated, anonymized).
- To send you (if you opted in) relevant news and product updates.
- To respond to your inquiries or support requests.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
4. Data Sharing & Disclosure
- Third-party processors – We use minimal third‑party services:
- Web hosting – Your data (e.g., scan requests) passes through our hosting provider; they act as data processors.
- Email delivery – If you subscribe, we use a provider to send emails (we will name the provider in the sign‑up confirmation).
- Opt‑in sharing – Within the Chrome extension, we include an optional feature that allows you to share anonymized scan data (domain, score, capabilities) to help build a public registry of UCP‑enabled stores. This is opt‑in only and clearly labelled in the extension settings.
- Legal compliance – We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
5. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), our processing of your personal data is based on:
- Consent – e.g., when you subscribe to our newsletter or opt in to share data.
- Legitimate interest – to provide the core scanning service and to improve it, which is essential for our business and does not override your rights.
6. Data Retention
- Scan results stored in the extension’s local storage are retained for up to 7 days (history) and are deleted when you clear your browser data or uninstall the extension.
- Email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe.
- Server logs (containing IP addresses) are retained for 30 days for security and debugging, then automatically deleted.
7. Security
We implement reasonable technical measures (HTTPS, secure coding practices, limited access) to protect your data. However, no transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We encourage you to use strong passwords and keep your browser updated.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access – request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Rectification – correct inaccurate data.
- Erasure – request deletion of your data.
- Restriction – limit how we use your data.
- Data portability – receive your data in a structured format.
- Object – to processing based on legitimate interest.
- Withdraw consent – at any time (e.g., unsubscribe from emails).
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@ucpscanner.com. We will respond within 30 days.
9. Children’s Privacy
Our service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Cookies & Tracking
We do not use tracking cookies or analytics cookies on the website. The only local storage item is your theme preference (key: ucptheme). The Chrome extension uses chrome.storage only for cached scan data and history, not for tracking.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice on our website or via email (if you subscribed). The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.
